How many ways can you use a Food Truck between Big Events?

“Inspired by Jesus meeting the disciples on the road to Emmaus
and being recognized by them as they broke bread together,
we dedicate ourselves to meeting young adults where they are on their journey
and experiencing God’s presence as we break bread together.”

Background: A Movable Feast (AMF) is a North Carolina Diocesan initiative to mission to and with Young Adults.

Young Adult: 18 and older, who is attempting to figure out how to live in this world. Young adults are NOT Youth. AMF looks to specifically reach out to young adults that are not served by a regular church community. In Durham, AMF has a growing relationship with Durham Tech and North Carolina Central.

A Movable Feast also provides outreach opportunities for Young Adults. As shown in the most recent issue of the Disciple, AMF is present each month at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle delivery at La Iglesia El Buen Pastor. During the school year, students from both UNC and Duke come out to sort food and join together in fellowship even on the day of the big game.

Problem: Between events at Durham Tech, NCCU and missional opportunities, the Truck sits in a parking lot. As the Truck moves around the diocese, it needs to find temporary homes from which to launch Young Adult and Community outreach. How can the hosting church use AMF during this down time?

Hypothesis: During July, we predict that St. Stephen’s will be able to find innovative ways to connect with the Congregation and Community while A Movable Feast is in residence.”

Research plan:
Activity 1.
School Supply Drive: Starting in Mid-July, we will be collecting items for Back-to-School. As AMF is focused on Young Adults, we will be collecting for all age students.

Activity 2. Summer Bible Study/Trivia: Have you ever wanted to play Pictionary on the side of a trailer, now is your chance. Join us Wednesdays at 7pm as we play Bible Pictionary

Activity 3. Compline Under the Stars in A Movable Feast Chapel on Wheels: Wednesdays at 9:30pm

Activity 4. Playground and Basketball Outreach: We don’t have all the details worked out, but pay attention to the bulletin and online for more information.

Other activities might pop-up during the summer.

Results: Check back in August to see how this experiment turns out. And check the weekly bulletin for more information about A Movable Feast and other Galilee Ministries of the Diocese.
